Lizzy Herzer

As I embarked on the scenic drive to Grundlsee on the evening of May 17th, I looked forward to two special days at the Care Solutions Congress. The MONDI Hotel at the crystal-clear Grundlsee provided the perfect atmosphere for the family-like exchange that Care Solutions organizes annually for their customers and partners. Around 70 participants had accepted the invitation – a familiar circle of long-standing partners and new faces. We from basebox were two new faces in this established group.
A Congress You Can Touch
What makes the Care Solutions Congress so special is its family-like atmosphere. "We don't just want to present new features to our customers, but enable real exchange," explained Managing Director Michael Wiltschnigg during the welcome coffee. "Here, everyone can speak openly about their challenges."
Care Solutions, a company of the Brothers of Mercy Order Province Central Europe, was founded in 2010 to optimize digital patient documentation. Today, all hospitals of the Brothers of Mercy as well as over 30 other facilities throughout Austria use their software solutions for nursing, visit management, and intensive care.
The Healthcare IT Dilemma
René Herzer, founder and managing director of basebox, was invited to speak about a burning topic: How can healthcare institutions use AI without losing control over their critical data?
"Organizations with critical data face a dilemma," he explained in his presentation. "They want to use AI functionality but cannot send their sensitive data to external services." The reactions in the audience showed: This problem concerns many.
The basebox Solution: Three Paths to Secure AI
basebox offers complete AI functionality – chat, search, document processing, and transcription – without data having to leave the premises. Three operating models are available:
• Managed Private Cloud: basebox handles complete operations in certified German data centers • Managed On-Premises: basebox operates the software remotely on customer hardware • Self-Managed: Complete control with the customer

Women Lead the Discussion
The openness of the discussions was pleasantly noticeable. It was also welcome that women took up a large portion of the speaking time – led by the competent Kerstin Obereder, who confidently guided the event.
Particularly impressive was Viktoria Redl's contribution about her systematic use case analysis. Her methodical approach showed how structured modern healthcare IT projects can be approached.

Compliance as a Purchase Criterion
Dr. Jama Nateqi from Symptoma hit the nail on the head: "AI systems must not only function but also be comprehensible. Especially in medicine, we need transparency."
René could score points here with concrete facts: ISO 27001 certification, GDPR compliance, and complete data processing agreements. "This isn't just a checkmark on the compliance list," he emphasized. "It means real legal security."
The special feature: Customer data is never used for training AI models, and with the Managed Private Cloud, no third-country transfer occurs.
Honest Conversations During Networking
The relaxed atmosphere led to open conversations. An IT manager told me: "We tried to implement an AI solution last year, but the data protection concerns were too great. Your solution sounds exactly like what we need."
Another participant added: "Our patient data is sacred. The idea of using AI without sending data outside is exactly what we've been looking for."
Performance and Economic Efficiency
To the practical question about performance, René had a clear answer: "Performance depends on your hardware. But we have customers who achieve better response times than with external services – without network latency."
Economically interesting: While the Managed Cloud works with 10 million tokens per user/year, On-Premises functions as a "flat rate" – marginal costs per token are eliminated after hardware acquisition.
Technical Details That Convince
For IT managers, the technical specifications were relevant: Kubernetes-native architecture, central authentication via Keycloak with OIDC, SAML, LDAP, and Active Directory. The solution enables both local model inference and RAG processing with MCP connections for existing data sources.
Key Insights
Control is crucial: Healthcare institutions want to use AI but don't want to lose control over their data.
Compliance from the start: Regulatory requirements must be considered from the beginning.
Flexible operating models: Various deployment options enable tailored solutions.
Thanks and Outlook
Special thanks go to Viktoria Stefan for the excellent organization. The perfect balance between professional exchange and personal conversations in the beautiful setting of Grundlsee made this event special.
The congress showed: The need for secure AI solutions in the healthcare industry is great. At basebox, we take concrete inquiries with us and, above all, confirmation that our approach – AI for critical data under full control – meets market demand.
Do you want to use AI for critical data but keep control? basebox is the Secure AI Stack for organizations like yours. Managed Private Cloud, Managed On-Premises, or Self-Managed – always under your control.
