Health Tech Forward Barcelona: When the next generation explains AI security – Three insights about courage, expertise and the future

When I met Victor at Munich airport in the evening, having just come from the hospital procurement congress, he radiated a mixture of excitement and anticipation. "Tomorrow is the day," he said as we boarded the plane to Barcelona together. On the eve of the Health Tech Forward Conference, I had a good feeling – even though his father and co-founder unfortunately couldn't be there.

Barcelona is calling – and we answer with the next generation

The Health Tech Forward Conference in Barcelona attracted over 800 participants from across Europe. Our small booth in the startup area was perfectly positioned to engage with decision-makers from the healthcare sector. While I coordinated booth management, Victor prepared for his first international presentation – a premiere that excited us both equally.

Our On-Premises AI Management System needs exactly this stage to show why European hospitals should process their critical data locally. Such appearances are crucial for basebox's visibility.

"I think I'm ready" – 18 years old and 50 attentive listeners

The moment Victor stepped onto the stage was equally moving for me as a mother. Here he stood before around 50 international healthcare experts, explaining why hospitals shouldn't send their critical patient data to the cloud.

"AI Readiness: Where does your organization stand?" – that's how he began his 15-minute presentation. What followed was a precise analysis of the four phases of AI integration in hospitals. Victor explained why many European clinics are still stuck in the "fragmented" phase when it comes to data availability.

After his presentation, several participants came directly to our booth: "Wow, so young and so smart," I heard repeatedly. This authentic enthusiasm was priceless.

From copy-paste to complete integration

What impressed me was Victor's ability to make complex technical relationships understandable. He showed how hospitals typically start with simple copy-paste solutions and then work their way up to complete system integrations over 12 months.

"Start with what you have," he explained to the audience. "PDFs, emails, wiki entries – before you connect HIS, RIS and LIS." A pragmatic approach that visibly resonated with the IT leaders present.

His presentation of the basebox solution was very good: Certified deployment solutions that replace 18 months of development time and 1.5 million euros of custom development. The message we want to convey as a company.

Networking between paella and product demos

The two days in Barcelona were packed with intensive conversations. Particularly exciting were the discussions about GDPR-compliant AI solutions – a topic that is current following the new EU AI regulations.

"Custom development is not an option for us," explained a hospital IT director. This is exactly where basebox scores: Ready-to-use workflows without development overhead.

The conversations clearly showed: The market is ready for our solution. More and more healthcare organizations are looking for alternatives to cloud-based AI systems that could endanger their sensitive data.

My key takeaways

  1. The next generation is ready: Victor proved that young talents can present complex B2B topics just as professionally as experienced consultants – sometimes even more authentically and credibly.

  2. On-premises matters: The conversations clearly showed that European healthcare organizations want to process their data locally. GDPR, AI Act and NIS2 are driving this development.

  3. Pragmatism beats perfection: The most successful AI implementations start small and grow organically.

Looking ahead

The healthcare industry is facing a paradigm shift. While everyone talks about cloud AI, the need for secure, local solutions is growing exponentially. basebox is positioned exactly for this – and with talents like Victor, who represents the next generation, I'm optimistic that we will successfully develop this market.
