Sustainability report

Our first report, for 2026. It shows the energy use and emissions caused by running basebox and how we reduce both.

• Model routing. Every request goes to the smallest model that answers it well. The most economical and the most demanding text model differ by a factor of about ten.
• Rust. The core of the platform is written in Rust, without a runtime or garbage collection. That saves computing time on every request.
• Our own inference from November 2026. In the Munich East data centre (noris network), powered by renewable electricity. Measured values will then replace the estimates.
• Office and team. 150 m² on green electricity since 2022, business travel by train, no company cars. Ten employees and two freelancers.
