AI vendor landscape in Switzerland: who offers what for municipalities, hospitals and businesses?

In Switzerland, the range of AI for healthcare is particularly broad: writing assistants for practices, AI in clinical and care software, solutions for Spitex (home care) and care homes. There are also horizontal platforms hosted in Switzerland, solutions for municipalities, function tools and offerings from public IT service providers. The vendors differ above all in where the platform and AI model run, whether data stays in Switzerland and whether prices are public.

What kinds of AI vendors are there in Switzerland?

Many Swiss vendors advertise data storage in Switzerland. That is an important feature, but not the only one: where the AI model runs, which proof is available and who operates the service matter just as much. The vendors fall into six groups:

  • Horizontal platforms: AI for many tasks, often hosted in Switzerland.
  • Sector solutions for public administration: assistants for municipalities and cities, some as part of a specialist application.
  • Sector solutions for healthcare: writing assistants for practices and hospitals, AI in clinical and care software, solutions for Spitex and care homes.
  • Function tools: chatbots for customer enquiries, translation, customer service, website builders.
  • Public in-house solutions: AI from public-sector IT service providers and cantonal projects.
  • Open source and self-build: interfaces that an organisation runs itself.

The tables are sorted alphabetically and are not a ranking. All information comes from the vendors’ websites, as of 11 October 2026; details and sources are on the linked comparison page.

Are there open-source offerings to run yourself?

This overview does not list any Swiss open-source interfaces of their own. Widely used are internationally developed interfaces such as Open WebUI and LibreChat. No licence costs means: the organisation itself takes care of hardware, model, updates, connection and proof.

How do you tell the vendors apart?

  • Operating model: cloud service, separate environment per customer or in-house operation, if required without an internet connection?
  • Where the AI model runs: Hosting in Switzerland can refer to the platform, while requests go to models of other providers abroad. Ask about both. More on this in the guide Wrapper or standalone platform.
  • Proof: ISO 27001, a contract for processing by a processor under Art. 9 DSG (Swiss Data Protection Act), for professionals bound by secrecy the commitment as an auxiliary person under Art. 321 StGB (Swiss Criminal Code), and for medical devices the registration. See Swiss Data Protection Act and AI and Professional secrecy under Art. 321 StGB.
  • Price public? Some vendors state packages or prices per person, many only in a quote.

Where does basebox stand?

basebox is a horizontal AI platform from Germany for healthcare and the public sector, with chat, apps, connectors, permissions and logs. In Switzerland, basebox offers the cloud and the server. Two things need to be distinguished:

  • Server in your organisation: Our hardware partner FAST LTA already delivers the Class 1 to 3 servers to Switzerland today, through a local partner. They then stand in the customer’s organisation, if required without an internet connection.
  • Cloud: basebox does not yet operate a server in a Swiss data centre for the cloud; this is in progress, by 2027 at the latest. Until then, the cloud runs in Germany for Swiss customers too, with a separate virtual environment for each organisation and the AI model on our servers in the Munich-East data centre.
  • Contract annexes for Switzerland: a supplement on data processing under the DSG and a confidentiality agreement under Art. 321 and Art. 320 StGB, as a draft to download at /sicherheit; the legal review is still pending.
  • Language: interface and support in German and English.
  • Proof and prices: certified to ISO 27001, BSI C5 Type 1 in progress; list prices public in the calculator.

The research reflects the status of 11 October 2026. The information comes from the vendors' websites; details and sources are on the respective comparison page. Check the current status with the vendor before making a decision.

Does AI for Swiss hospitals have to run in Switzerland?

The Data Protection Act (DSG) does not prohibit disclosure abroad if the country offers adequate protection; according to Annex 1 of the Data Protection Ordinance (DSV), Germany is one of them. Cantonal rules, professional secrecy and contracts can require more. Details in the guide on the Swiss Data Protection Act.

Are German and international vendors also active in Switzerland?

Yes, several, including makers of clinical and practice software. Ask the vendor whether it sells, provides support and keeps data in Switzerland.
