AI vendor landscape in Austria: who offers what for municipalities, healthcare and businesses?
In Austria, AI for organisations comes mainly from many horizontal AI platforms and project firms, plus solutions for municipalities, writing assistants for doctors' practices, function tools such as phone assistants and, with GovGPT, an offering of the federal administration. The vendors differ above all in where the platform and AI model run, whether in-house operation is possible and whether prices are public. The overview lists them alphabetically, without a ranking.
What kinds of AI vendors are there in Austria?
The Austrian market is smaller than the German one, but diverse. A striking feature is the number of platforms and project firms that offer in-house operation or operation in Austrian data centres. The vendors fall into six groups:
- Horizontal platforms: AI for many tasks, often with consulting and projects from a single source.
- Sector solutions for public administration: assistants for municipalities, some with Austrian law as a source.
- Sector solutions for healthcare: writing assistants for doctors’ practices, symptom checkers and sensors for care.
- Function tools: phone assistants, website chatbots, legal research, AI in the electronic file.
- Public in-house solutions: GovGPT and ida on the infrastructure of the Federal Computing Centre (BRZ).
- Open source and self-build: interfaces such as Open WebUI that an organisation runs itself or with a service provider.
The tables are sorted alphabetically and are not a ranking. All information comes from the vendors’ websites, as of 11 October 2026; details and sources are on the linked comparison page.

Are there open-source offerings to run yourself?
This overview does not list any Austrian open-source interfaces of their own. Widely used are internationally developed interfaces such as Open WebUI and LibreChat; headwAI offers a supported edition of Open WebUI. No licence costs means here: the organisation itself or a service provider takes care of hardware, model, updates, connection and proof.
How do you tell the vendors apart?
- Operating model: cloud service, separate instance per customer, data centre in Austria or in-house operation, if required without an internet connection?
- Where the AI model runs: Does the vendor run the model itself, or do requests go to models of other providers, for example via Microsoft Azure? More on this in the guide Wrapper or standalone platform.
- Proof: ISO 27001, a data processing agreement under the GDPR and, for medical devices, the certification. For municipalities, confidentiality obligations and the Data Protection Act also count, see Data protection and official secrecy in Austria.
- Price public? Some vendors state prices per person per month or packages, many only in a quote.
Where does basebox stand?
basebox is a horizontal AI platform from Germany for healthcare and the public sector, with chat, apps, connectors, permissions and logs. In Austria, basebox offers the cloud and the server:
- Cloud: separate virtual environment for each organisation, AI model on our servers in the Munich-East data centre in Germany; from 5 people, €490 to €178 per person per year (list price, net).
- Server: Class 1 to 3 servers for one organisation only, at your site and, if required, without an internet connection; also hardware of your choice.
- Language: interface and support in German and English.
- Proof: certified to ISO 27001, BSI C5 Type 1 in progress; data processing agreement at /vertrag, documents at /sicherheit.
- Prices: public in the calculator.
basebox does not operate a data centre in Austria. If you need data to stay in the country, use the server in your own organisation.
